A small practice,
one shared belief
We're a small practice offering counselling and psychotherapy in Newquay, Cornwall. We work separately with our own clients but share the same values and the same belief in what good therapy can do when the conditions are right.
Following your lead, not a fixed script
Our work is grounded in person-centred principles the belief that the relationship is at the heart of therapy, and that you are the expert on your own experience. From that foundation, we work integratively, drawing on other approaches where they're helpful. Not fitting you into a method, but bringing in what's most useful for you at any given point.
You are the expert on your own experience. Our job is to be present with you in it, honestly, and without agenda. We don't shy away from what's difficult. Jung said it plainly: there is no coming to consciousness without pain. We think sitting with what's hard, with genuine curiosity rather than pressure, is where real change becomes possible.
Your first session
There's no agenda we're working to. The sessions are yours, to use how you need to, to move at the pace that feels right. We don't diagnose or redirect. We listen, we notice, we follow. And we work with the whole person, including the parts that carry shame, or that have been pushed away because they felt unacceptable. Those parts aren't problems. They're asking to be understood.
We're honest with you, about what we're observing, about our limits, about what's happening between us. A good therapeutic relationship is at the heart of successful counselling outcomes and is built on that honesty, not on performing warmth.
1
A free initial call
Before anything is committed to, we offer a short phone call. A chance to ask questions, get a feel for how we work, and see if it might be a fit. No obligation.
2
No pressure, no script
The first session isn't an assessment. There's nothing you need to have prepared or know how to say. It's just a beginning — wherever you happen to be.
3
You decide what happens next
At the end of the first session, you decide whether to continue. We'll talk through how often to meet and what format works for you. The decision is always yours.
What person-centred means in practice
01 — You lead
There's no agenda we're working to. We follow what matters to you — in this session, on this day. The pace is always yours.
02 — No fixing
We're not here to diagnose, advise, or redirect you. We're here to understand — and to help you understand yourself more fully.
03 — The relationship matters
Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the biggest factor in whether therapy helps. We take that seriously.
04 — Integrated, not rigid
We both draw on other approaches where useful — but person-centred principles shape everything we do. You are the expert on your own experience.
It begins with a conversation…..
We fit around you
Some people need the room. Some need the distance. Some find things come more easily side by side, outdoors, walking. We work in whatever format suits you — and that can change over time.
Sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients come weekly to start with, though the frequency can shift.
